ECT Teacher of Mathematics - High-Achieving Secondary...
An ambitious and well-established 11–18 secondary school in Leicester is looking to appoint an Early Career Teacher of Mathematics to join its successful Maths department. The school is known locally for strong progress scores, clear behaviour systems and a leadership team that prioritises high-quality teaching above unnecessary administration.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a newly qualified Maths teacher to begin their career in a department that combines academic rigour with strong mentoring and collaborative planning.
The Role
You will teach Mathematics across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering a curriculum that is carefully sequenced to build fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills. The department operates a shared planning model, meaning schemes of work, assessments and model answers are centrally resourced and refined regularly.
Lessons focus on clarity of explanation, structured practice and regular retrieval. Students are accustomed to consistent routines and high expectations, creating calm and focused classrooms where learning time is maximised.
Induction & Professional Development
The school has a strong track record of developing Early Career Teachers into confident practitioners and middle leaders. As part of your induction, you will receive:
• A reduced timetable in line with ECT guidance
• A dedicated Maths mentor with weekly coaching sessions
• Departmental co-planning time
• Regular lesson observations with constructive feedback
• Access to local Maths hub CPD and exam board training
The Maths team includes experienced practitioners and subject leads who actively support new colleagues.
About the School
Situated within a well-connected part of Leicester, the school serves a diverse intake and prides itself on academic ambition combined with strong pastoral care. Behaviour is managed through a consistent whole-school system, and staff retention is high.
The Maths department is housed within a dedicated corridor of modern classrooms equipped with visualisers and interactive boards. GCSE results are consistently strong, and uptake at higher tier is above national averages.
The Ideal Candidate
• Holds QTS and a relevant Mathematics degree
• Demonstrates secure subject knowledge and clarity in explanation
• Is reflective, organised and eager to develop
• Values collaboration and consistency
Why Join This School?
You will begin your teaching career in a structured and academically focused environment where your development is taken seriously and your wellbeing is respected.
