School Caretaker | Leicester
The Opportunity

We are seeking a reliable and versatile School Caretaker to join a dedicated site team in Leicester . We are looking for an individual who can balance routine maintenance with emergency repairs, ensuring the school remains a top-tier learning environment for every student.
Core Responsibilities
Site Security: Managing the opening and closing of the school premises, including the setting of alarms and ensuring the site is secure against unauthorised access.
General Maintenance: Carrying out first-line repairs and maintenance (plumbing, carpentry, painting, and glazing) to ensure the building remains in excellent condition.
Health & Safety Compliance: Conducting regular safety checks, including fire alarm testing, water temperature monitoring (Legionella prevention), and playground equipment inspections.
Grounds Upkeep: Ensuring the external areas are tidy and safe, including litter picking, basic gardening, and gritting/snow clearance during winter months to keep the site operational.
Contractor Liaison: Supervising external tradespeople and cleaning staff, ensuring that work is carried out to a high standard and within school safety protocols.
Porterage & Event Support: Assisting with the movement of furniture and equipment for assemblies, exams, and evening community events or parents' evenings.

Candidate Profile
Experience: Proven experience in a caretaking, facilities, or trade-based role (e.g., DIY, construction, or maintenance) is essential.
Technical Skills: A "jack-of-all-trades" ability to handle basic repairs and a comfortable working knowledge of health and safety regulations.
Reliability: A highly dependable individual who understands the importance of punctuality, especially for early-morning site openings.
Character: A proactive, "can-do" professional who can communicate effectively with staff, students, and visitors while remaining calm under pressure.
