Project Manager (Contractor)
Location: Leicester | Full Time
Salary: £45/hour (Outside IR35) | On Site Due to continued growth and a strong forward order book, we are recruiting for an experienced Engineering Project Manager to join a well-established business specialising in automation and robotic solutions. This is a contract opportunity where you will play a key role in delivering complex engineering projects, managing them from concept through to completion. Roles & Responsibilities Project Ownership & Delivery Manage and deliver multiple engineering projects (typically 3–4 concurrently)
Ensure projects meet agreed timescales and contractual commitments
Take full ownership of URS requirements and project scope
Manage project handovers in line with company processes
Drive delivery against key commercial milestones, including payments
Financial & Resource Management Own project budgets, costings, and margins
Plan and allocate resources across design, build, electrical, software, and commissioning teams
Ensure effective utilisation of internal teams and external suppliers
Design & Technical Oversight Lead internal and external design reviews
Ensure engineering standards and best practices are maintained
Oversee purchasing aligned with project budgets
Support build schedules, controls integration, and commissioning activities
Customer Management Act as the main point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle
Manage risks including scope changes, delays, and supply issues
Provide regular updates and clear communication to stakeholders
Quality & Compliance Ensure all projects meet quality standards and regulatory requirements
Maintain high levels of accuracy, documentation, and compliance Requirements Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
10+ years’ experience as a Project Manager within engineering/automation
Strong background in automation, robotics, or special purpose machinery
Experience working with regulated industries (medical, healthcare, or packaging preferred)
Proven ability to manage budgets, costs, and resources effectively
Strong knowledge of project management tools (e.g. Microsoft Project)
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Hands-on, proactive approach with strong commercial awareness What’s on Offer Contract role with a well-established and growing engineering business
