Information Rights Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for an Information Rights Manager to join our Information Rights Team. The information rights team is an integral part of the Knowledge and Information Team (KIM). You will play a pivotal role, leading on managing requests for access to information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI), the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs) and data subject requests under the Data Protection Act.
You will lead, manage, develop, and promote APHA’s information rights service. The role involves a wide range of work including, but not limited to, the following:
- Provide expert advice on compliance with the legislation.
- Management of the service ensuring requests are delivered according to legislative deadlines.
- Lead on the delivery of internal reviews, and Information Commission Office (ICO) cases.
- Manage and coordinate APHA’s contributions to Information Tribunals.
- Lead user for the case management system (eCase) as used in the KIM team.
- Develop and maintain all information rights policies, team instructions and templates ensuring they reflect current best practice and understanding of the legislation.
- Ensure the Publication Scheme is kept up to date and responses to requests are published in a timely manner on APHA’s website.
- Work with KIM colleagues to maintain and develop their information rights knowledge and expertise.
- Promote the wider understanding of the legislation and the information rights services to APHA teams.
- Represent APHA in liaison with information rights and data protection colleagues across the Defra Group.
- Line management and development of two team members (EO grade).
- Develop and maintain professional knowledge and expertise in the field of information rights and related disciplines. This includes studying for the appropriate practitioner certificates and keeping in touch with KIM events and issues across the wider profession through membership of relevant societies and participation in working groups.
- As part of the wider KIM team, promote and develop good records and information practice across the agency.
- Use appropriate tools and methods to train, support and inform customers.
