JLPT Invigilator 2026-A (ID:13129)
The JLPT Invigilator will support the delivery of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test within the School of Arts, Media and Communication and Languages at Leicester. The postholder will contribute to the effective and secure administration of this international examination by overseeing the supervision of candidates and ensuring that all aspects of the process are conducted in accordance with the standards set by the Japan Foundation.
This involves working collaboratively with colleagues and the JLPT Coordinator to manage examination rooms, support the handling of sensitive materials and ensure that all procedures are implemented with accuracy. The position is funded by JLPT examination fees and requires a proactive approach to planning, communication and understanding the expectations set out in the invigilator’s manual.
Duties and responsibilities
The postholder will attend all required JLPT training sessions and meetings, read the relevant documentation in advance and seek clarification where necessary to ensure complete understanding of procedures. They will prepare examination spaces by setting up tables, organising the room layout and ensuring that all materials are managed securely. During the writing, listening and reading examinations, they will supervise candidates closely, maintain vigilance and respond promptly to any irregularities or disruptions.
Following the guidance of the Japan Foundation, the Invigilator will handle and prepare exam materials for secure return, maintain records accurately and support the coordinator and colleagues with the smooth running of the examination. They will also ensure that candidates with special accommodations receive appropriate support and that all activity adheres to established schedules and exam-day expectations.
Below is a summary of the anticipated hours/dates;
- All staff briefing and training - Friday 5th June 2026 (14:00-16:00 /17:30-19:30 - 2 hours)
- Exam day TBC (09:00 and up to 16:30 - hours are estimated and to be confirmed )
- Layout change – Saturday 04 July 2026 (2 hours)
Skills and experience
The successful candidate will have experience in teaching adult groups, working in higher education or invigilating examinations, including the JLPT, and will be confident in applying complex procedural instructions. They will demonstrate strong teamwork skills, reliability and the ability to understand and follow rules with accuracy. A responsible approach to timekeeping and preparation is essential, as is the capacity to communicate clearly with candidates, colleagues and the JLPT Coordinator.
They will bring the ability to maintain vigilance, identify irregularities, solve problems effectively and manage documentation with care. Experience supporting candidates with special accommodations is desirable, as is a background in education, customer service or similar s requiring attention to detail. Flexibility to attend scheduled meetings and a commitment to the University’s principles of equality, diversity and inclusion are important elements of the .
