Capital Projects Officer
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a motivated and proactive Capital Projects Officer (Band 6) to join our Our Future Hospitals (OFH) team during a unique and transformative period for the Trust.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a wide and diverse portfolio of major capital projects, including our flagship £1.5bn New Hospitals Programme, alongside significant refurbishments, new builds, infrastructure upgrades and strategic estates investments across our hospital sites.
Working as part of a dynamic, multi‑disciplinary team, the post holder will support the Technical team with planning, coordination and delivery of projects from concept through to commissioning, ensuring that works are delivered safely, compliantly, on time and within agreed budgets. You will work closely with Project Managers, Cost Managers, clinical teams, contractors and professional advisers, contributing to the successful delivery of complex construction projects that directly support patient care and the long‑term future of the Trust.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in capital projects or estates delivery who is looking to further develop their career within a large, ambitious NHS capital programme.
Providing day‑to‑day coordination and administrative support to capital projects, including maintaining project documentation, action logs, reports and supporting governance processes.
Supporting contract and commercial management activities, ensuring construction contracts and professional appointments are managed in line with Trust policies, statutory requirements and NHS guidance.
Preparing, coordinating and maintaining technical documentation, including specifications, tender documentation, meeting records and project information to support delivery and decision‑making.
Supporting financial management and cost control, including invoice verification, monitoring expenditure against approved capital budgets and supporting financial reporting within delegated limits.
Assisting with procurement and tendering activities, supporting the preparation of briefs and technical documentation in accordance with Trust and NHS standards.
Liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including clinical teams, estates colleagues, consultants and contractors, communicating information clearly and professionally.
Supporting performance monitoring, audits and quality assurance activity, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of capital project processes, governance arrangements and ways of working within the Our Future Hospitals programme.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We Have Four Primary Goals
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
