Job Title: Behaviour Mentor – Primary & Nursery
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Start Date: ASAP or next academic term
School Overview
This vibrant Primary and Nursery School in Belgrave is renowned for its inclusive ethos, strong pastoral support, and commitment to nurturing each child’s emotional, social, and academic development. The school serves a diverse Leicester community, with children from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
The leadership team recognises that early behaviour challenges often reflect unmet emotional or developmental needs. To address this, the school has implemented strong pastoral frameworks, behaviour mentoring programmes, and SEND provision. With a growing number of pupils requiring personalised support in Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, the school is now looking for a compassionate and experienced Behaviour Mentor.
Role Purpose
The Behaviour Mentor will provide targeted support to children experiencing difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction. Pupils may present with SEMH needs, ADHD, ASD, attachment difficulties, or other developmental challenges affecting social and emotional skills.
This role is a key part of the pastoral team, providing 1:1 mentoring, small group interventions, and classroom support to help children develop resilience, confidence, and positive behaviours. The postholder will also support teachers, EYFS staff, and parents in implementing consistent behaviour strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver 1:1 behavioural and emotional support for pupils with additional needs
Facilitate small group interventions focused on social skills, emotional literacy, and self-regulation
Support children within Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1 classrooms
Assist pupils during transitions, routines, and structured or unstructured activities
Support behaviour management during playtimes, lunchtimes, and other unstructured periods
Implement individual behaviour support plans and monitor pupil progress
Use restorative, play-based, and trauma-informed approaches
Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
Observe, assess, and record pupil progress and intervention outcomes
Contribute to planning, review meetings, and multi-agency discussions
Build effective relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals
Work collaboratively with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams
Promote a school culture of empathy, inclusion, and mutual respect
Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies consistently
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient, with a passion for supporting young children. You will understand that challenging behaviour is often communication and respond with consistency, positivity, and structure.
You should demonstrate:
Experience working in Primary, Nursery, or EYFS settings
Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and attachment-informed practice
Ability to implement behaviour interventions and monitor outcomes effectively
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
Reflective practice and proactive problem-solving
Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment
Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, psychology, or youth work are desirable but not essential.
Training, Support, and Career Development
The school provides structured induction, regular supervision, and access to specialist CPD. Behaviour Mentors are encouraged to develop skills in SEMH, SEND, early intervention, and behaviour management. This role provides pathways into teaching, SEN support, or pastoral leadership.

Supportive, inclusive, and collaborative working environment
Experienced leadership and pastoral teams
High-quality CPD and specialist training opportunities
A highly rewarding role with measurable impact on children’s development
Opportunities for long-term and permanent employment
