Landscape Team Supervisor

Leicester is covered by a wealth of soft and hard open spaces that includes a range of parks, gardens, country parks, nature areas,150,000 individual trees and 107 hectares of woodlands, canal, and riverside, 150 play and outdoor gym facilities, sports facilities, highways, and housing green spaces totalling 1,250 hectares. It is widely recognised that quality open spaces contribute to residents' quality of life and improve physical and mental health wellbeing, with parks in Leicester attracting around 9m visitors per annum. Join our specialist Landscape Services as a landscape operative to ensure Leicester's green infrastructure is free of barriers to access, by helping to maintain its horticultural features as well as hard landscape features including play areas and other open spaces. Primarily you'll be based at Beaumont Park Depot within our Landscape Services section, however, you'll be required to work on construction sites throughout Leicester working 37 hours per week from Monday to Thursday 07.30 – 15.30 pm. 07:30 – 15:00 on a Friday. Reporting to the Landscape Team Manager, you'll become a valued member of Landscape Services and support a team of 2 to 5 operatives. What you'll be doing You'll Supervise a Landscape Services operational team and work with Landscape Operatives and Skilled Landscape Operative on a variety of landscaping projects such as landscape development and control resources. You'll produce weekly work programmes for operative teams and sub- contractors to carry out, estimate costs for landscape projects and calculate quantities and resource requirements such as specialist works, including tools, equipment and specialist plant. Working with other Supervisors and other officers, you will ensure that landscaping duties are carried out efficiently and effectively. You'll also oversee the children's play area and public open space development work and responsibility for on site activities including risk assessments and health and safety matters. What you'll need Substantial landscaping and or construction experience as well as knowledge of landscaping or construction industry practices. You will also have experience of supervising and developing teams of operatives. In addition, you will have an appropriate landscape/construction qualification to at least NVQ 2 level or equivalent qualification. Using your knowledge of health and safety regulations and regulations related to the industry you will be able to ensure the safety of the team and of the works being carried out. You will have good communication skills to be able to liaise with customers, clients and other officers. A full driving license is essential.
