Teacher of Geography - Ambitious Secondary School -...
A well-established and forward-thinking 11–18 secondary school in Leicester is seeking a knowledgeable and engaging Teacher of Geography to join its successful Humanities faculty. The school has a strong local reputation for academic progress, structured behaviour systems and a culture that combines high expectations with genuine pastoral care.
Geography is a popular and well-respected subject within the school. GCSE uptake is consistently strong, and A-Level numbers have grown steadily in recent years. Students respond well to the subject’s balance of analytical thinking, contemporary issues and applied fieldwork.
The Role
You will teach Geography across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to contribute to Key Stage 5 depending on experience. The curriculum is carefully sequenced and rooted in strong disciplinary knowledge, ensuring students build both conceptual understanding and secure case study application.
The department has worked extensively to refine:
Clear knowledge organisers and retrieval strategies
Structured exam preparation and modelling
Fieldwork methodology embedded from Year 7
Consistent assessment and feedback approaches
Planning is collaborative and schemes of work are shared, allowing teachers to focus on high-quality delivery rather than constant reinvention.
Fieldwork & Enrichment
Fieldwork is central to the department’s identity. Students regularly engage in:
Urban field studies within Leicester city centre
River and rural landscape investigations
GCSE physical and human geography fieldwork days
A-Level residential visits
The department also runs a Geography society and participates in national competitions and sustainability initiatives.
The Department
Geography sits within a cohesive Humanities faculty alongside History and RE. Classrooms are located in a modern teaching block with access to interactive boards and shared digital mapping resources. The team meets regularly to moderate work, review outcomes and refine curriculum sequencing.
The Head of Humanities is experienced, organised and supportive, providing clear direction while encouraging innovation and subject scholarship.
The School
This Leicester secondary school has built a reputation for calm, purposeful learning. Behaviour expectations are clear and consistently applied, with strong support from senior leadership. Students are respectful and increasingly ambitious, with improving GCSE outcomes across the board.
The school building includes a modern central atrium, well-maintained teaching areas and designated Sixth Form study spaces. Staff wellbeing is taken seriously, and marking policies are streamlined to prioritise impact over paperwork.
What You’ll Bring
QTS or equivalent qualification in Geography
Secure subject knowledge across physical and human geography
Confidence teaching exam technique and extended writing
Commitment to fieldwork and enrichment
A collaborative, professional approach
Why Join?
Growing A-Level uptake and strong GCSE results
Structured behaviour systems
Collaborative Humanities team
Clear leadership and reduced workload expectations
Opportunities for progression within faculty
This is an excellent opportunity for a Geography teacher who wants to work in a school that values academic integrity, structured curriculum planning and meaningful professional collaboration.
